Beautiful Boards by Maegan Brown
Most of you know that Charcutier is something I love to serve. I just discovered a book called Beautiful Boards. This book is perfect for people that like step-by-step instructions (how many crackers and what kinds of cheese) or those that need some suggested new ingredients to mix up their tired and boring boards. My favorite section is the Everyday Boards- but just know that this book is filled with ingenious ways to use boards for entertaining and could give you guidance for every holiday throughout the entire year.
First let’s talk about the Date Night In board. This board is in my wheelhouse and is the most similar to those I have made in the past. I ALWAYS use Manchego as one of the cheeses and include fig or apricot jam because I just love the combination of those flavors on a cracker or crostini.
The After School Board would be enough to ROCK any kid’s world and get you the best Mom EVER AWARD. Fill it with a combination of your kids’ sweet and savory favorites or take some suggestions from Meagan who is very creative. Her suggestions for this board include putting dried cranberries and peanut butter near the celery so kids can make “ants on a log” and don’t forget the fish shaped crackers and hummus which can be used to create a “fish in the river”.
The Gluten Free Board is pure genius- as she has pulled together ingredients that anyone at any gathering would like to eat, all while accommodating dietary restrictions. This is one to have in the back pocket and pull it out when you need it. In addition, while making this board I was pleased to discover the ingredients were easy to find at my local grocery store making pulling this one together a breeze.
This Every Day Board is an absolute no brainer. I feel like this board can be served to any crowd at any time and has a little something for everyone (again you can always customize to bring in the all-time favorites of your tribe). This one looks and feels a little less themed and more about filling it with a whole lotta love. Suggestions are there but feel free to customize this to your beloved audience.
My point with this post is to bring you the direction and wisdom of Maegan Brown but also to say to you that if you want to serve Charcuterie – you have got this. You know better than anyone what your kids, husbands, friends, book club likes so go with your gut and SPREAD YOUR LOVE ON A BOARD.
