2020 Thanksgiving Side Dish Ideas
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. With COVID entrenched in our lives who knows what turkey day will even look like for each of us. Wherever you might get to go and with whomever you have the opportunity to spend the day with – you can still enjoy a great meal together. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite side dishes to make Thanksgiving a little easier.
I LOVE Ina Garten’s Roasted Pear and Apple Sauce which is a nice flavor twist on the traditional apple sauce. This is a great recipe to make ahead, and I have given you directions for both the slow roast and the 10-minute instant pot methods.
The Roasted Winter Vegetables is a staple in our home – this does require some chopping (which can be done in advance) but is healthy and is a delicious combination of flavors that has a colorful presentation.
Another great option is the Classic Potato Gratin, which is a richer more gourmet version of scalloped potatoes. This dish could not be easier with only 5 ingredients – potatoes, Gruyere cheese, heavy whipping cream, salt and pepper. I think I have made this over 100 times – it is a requested favorite (especially from my Grandma) and goes well with any meat.
Southern Sweet Potato Casserole is a classic. Mashed sweet potatoes topped with corn flakes and marshmallows – need I say more.
Last, but not least is the Green Beans with Mustard Sauce. This recipe takes your basic green beans and kicks them up a notch with a rich creamy sauce that comes together easily and again can be made ahead.
Here’s hoping that you and yours have a Thanksgiving holiday in which we can count our blessings, enjoy some of the people we love, and enjoy a great meal.
